All I have to say at the moment is: if you're in Germany, and it's a holiday weekend, and you're taking a late night train to get back to your town which is normally just 15 minutes away...

DON'T MISS YOUR STOP.

1:47 AM: having overshot Freiburg by 3 or so stops

3:17: huddled in the phone booth in order to stay warm

5:05 AM: sudden realization (and accompanying sinking feeling) that the 5:05 train--which we had been waiting over 3 hours for--would never arrive because of holiday schedule.

5:09 AM: ever-so-wisely decide to hop on train headed in opposite direction, in order to kill time until the next train arrives at 6:32.

5:24: discover that the ass-crack of a "town" we got off in recieves even fewer visits by trains, and holds fewer amenities such as phone booths to huddle in. (Note to self: if there isn't a proper platform but rather a strip of dirt, a graffiti-covered, litter-strewn aluminum shack of a train stop shelter, and a timetable 1/12 the size of the previous station's timetable, get back on train immediately).

5:35: after considering all options (ie, wait in ass-crack town or walk back to previous town) we decide to walk.

7:05 AM: post sunrise, post 1+ hour walk to neighboring town (which seems downright metropolitan because of its vending machines and heated waiting room).

7:43 AM: home--deliriously tired.
